Email Policy
This Email Policy explains when Ask A Contractor (askacontractor.org) sends email, what kinds of messages we send, and how to stop them. It works together with our Privacy Policy.
When we send email
- Only when you give us your email address with your question. The email field on the Ask a Question form is optional. If you provide it, we may email you about that question — for example, to let you know your answer has been published, or to share an update or a closely related answer.
- Only when you explicitly request emails. If we ever offer a mailing list or update subscription, we will only add you if you sign up for it directly.
- Never from purchased lists. We do not buy, rent, or borrow email lists, and we do not send email to addresses collected from other websites.
Types of messages
- Transactional messages — directly about your submission, such as confirming we received your question or telling you the answer is live. These are part of the service you requested.
- Informational messages — occasional updates, such as new answers on the trade your question was about. Every informational email includes a clear unsubscribe link.
How to opt out
Click the unsubscribe link in the footer of any non-essential email. Your request is processed promptly — in most cases within a few days, and never more than 10 business days. After you unsubscribe, we keep your address on a suppression list only so we can honor your choice and not email you again. Opting out of informational email does not delete your published question, and we may still send a transactional message about a question you submitted afterwards.
Our commitments
- We do not sell or rent your email address.
- Our emails clearly identify Ask A Contractor as the sender.
- We do not use deceptive subject lines.
- If you never gave us an address and you receive a message that appears to be from us, it was not sent by us — please disregard it.
Questions about email
To change or remove the email address connected to your question, send a request through the Ask a Question form on askacontractor.org and say it is an email request.
